First, a family gathering at the farm. The drive is always just long enough to almost put Nora to sleep, and the air fresh enough to entirely revive her. Space to run, cousins to boss (and be bossed by), "green cake with pink frosting" by Oma, silly by Opa.
Then, a friend-and-family gathering in the backyard. Replete with "white cake with chocolate frosting and rainbow sprinkles," helium balloons, a musician/storyteller, and school pals.
The final party was on her actual birthday, just a little celebration with three store-bought treats, and presents from Mama and Dada (her first doll, and pretty editions of Stuart Little and Wizard of Oz).
10:43 p.m., three years to the minute, Mama remembers to snap a photo (to compare to last year).
