Offerings

First, a birthday bouquet for her first school friend, white roses and peonies proudly clipped from our yard, arranged in a mason jar (note her glittery silver shoes on the wrong feet) ...

And then, a treasure! A wonder! A beautiful, striped snail!

"Captured" (in her words) in Nonna's yard, this was the thrill of the day -- she recounted the entire process of finding a jar, filling it with leaves, making a paper lid with holes on top, and the "shiny trail on my hands -- but I just washed it off."

She hadn't been brave enough to "share" at school (their version of show-and-tell), but this snail was the tipping point. This morning, she transported it carefully on her lap, and, upon arrival, simply let go of Dada's hand, marched right through the door, and closed it behind her.

He watched through the windows as she was surrounded by a band of boys, eager to see her prize.
